River Hawks Slip Away in Five-Set Marathon

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team had another solid outing and suffered another tough setback, taking visiting Susquehanna to five games on Tuesday night.

The River Hawks used a strong start to claim the opening set, 25-14, but the Red Devils would only get stronger as the match progressed. The teams battled through the second set, trading points in a marathon before Susquehanna slipped away, 33-31, to lead 2-0.

First-year Jenna Schumann (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy) had a strong start in the third set, leading the Red Devils to a 25-22 decision. Jacqueline Banker (Rockaway Park, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) served the Red Devils out of a 17-15 deficit to put Dickinson in front 21-17 as they closed out the fourth to force a deciding set, matching the score of the third, 25-22.

The River Hawks led 4-1 to start the final set and would hold off the Devils, 15-8, to improve to 3-2 on the season.

Brooke Lacesa and Hannah Lyons each tallied 15 kills to lead the Susquehanna attack while Lindsey Pugh handed out 51 assists.

First-year Emma Lange (Jupiter, Fla./Benjamin) led the Red Devil attack with 12 kills while Schumann and classmate Morgan Biggs (Stephenson, Va./James Wood) each recorded nine on the night. Schumann reached double-figures with 10 digs and served up three aces as well.

First-year Christina Chu (Hartsdale, N.Y./Ardsley) had 24 assists and 10 digs while Kristin Allgaier (Reston, Va./South Lakes) dished out 23 assists. Kylie Albertsen (Woodstock, Md./Marriots Ridge) combined for seven blocks to go with four kills and sophomore libero Tatiana Lopez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Puertorriqueno de Ninas) finished with 14 digs and four aces.

The Red Devils slip to 2-3 overall. They travel to the Lycoming Invitational for a pair of matches on Friday night and two on Saturday. They are scheduled to open against Clarks Summit at 4:00 pm.
