(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to visiting Franklin & Marshall in the home opener for the Red Devils on Wednesday night at the Kline Center.
The Red Devils made a strong run in the middle of the first set before the Diplomats closed out the opener, 24-17.
Dickinson had a strong start in the second as well before F&M rallied in the middle of the set and pulled in front, 16-8. The Red Devils made comeback, going on a 12-4 run to tie the match, 20-20. The teams traded points before the Red Devils slipped ahead, 24-22. The Diplomats rallied to close out the set, 26-24, and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Devils played even in the third set until a run by the visitors put them up, 15-6. Dickinson kept battling, looking for some momentum, but F&M would hold on for the win, 25-10.
Delaney Hahn led the Diplomats with 11 kills while Grace Polisano reached double-figures with 10. F&M improves to 7-4 overall and starts 1-0 in Centennial Conference play.
Junior Megan Gombatz (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) led the Red Devils with eight kills while Norma Jean Park (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) and Jamie Singer (Livingston, N.J./Golda Och) each tallied four.
The Red Devils slip to 5-6 overall and 0-2 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road on Saturday, traveling to Muhlenberg College for a tri-match with the host Mules and DeSales University. The Red Devils face Muhlenberg at 12:00 pm and take on DeSales at 2:00 pm.
