Red Devils Open Spring at E'Town Early Bird Invite

(Elizabethtown, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's track & field team opened the 2019 outdoor season with some strong performances at the Elizabethtown College Early Bird Invitational.

Sophomore Allyson Yanega (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) had a great start, winning the 800-meters, the mile and the 4x4-relay. Sarah Yanega (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) was second in the 800 and also joined the 4x400 relay.

Natalie Suess (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt) and Liana Tabtiang (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) earned a win with the 4x400 relay and added another with the 4x100. Tabtiang ran to second in the 400-meters and claimed third in the 200 while Suess was fourth in the 400 and earned a silver in the triple jump.

The Red Devils combined to capture the top seven spots in the 800-meters and had nine of the top 10 runners in the race. In the mile, the Red Devils had six runners in the top 10 as Isabella Fife (Lancaster, Pa./JP McCaskey) and Candice Ionescu (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) crossed the line third and fourth.

First-year Alexandra Colby (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) won the 100-meter hurdles and anchored the winning 4x100 relay. She added a fifth-place finish in the 200-meters and was fourth in the pole vault.

First-year Elizabeth Cassell (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) had a second-place showing in the 10,000-meters with Maura Reilly Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) plaing fourh while Elaina Clancy (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) and Lucile Ionescu (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) were third and fifth in the 5000-meters.

Lilianna Matala (Schenectady, N.Y./Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) was second in the 400-meter hurdles while Lana Ljoka (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) placed fourth and fifth in the triple and long jump events, respectively.

Junior Wrutoe Bonwin (Lynn, Mass./KIPP Academy Lynn Collegiate) was part of the 4x100 relay, adding a fourth in the 100-meters and placing seventh in the 200-meters.

The Red Devils travel to Gettysburg College next Saturday for the Little Three Championships.
