Red Devil Swimmers Suffer Setback in Season Opener

(Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's swim team opened the season at defending Centennial Conference champion Ursinus, suffering a 112-86 setback in Collegeville.

Senior Demetria Ruhl (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) had a strong start, winning the 1000 and 500-yard freestyle events and placing second as the anchor of the 400-free relay.

Senior Molly Sternick (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) placed second in the 100 free and with the 400-medley relay, adding a third-place finish in the 50 free as well.

First-year Caroline Wasielevski (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) captured the 100 freestyle and placed second in the 50 and with the 400-free relay, swimming the lead leg.

Sophomore Maddi Vlattas (Herndon, Va./Westfield) joined the medley relay, adding a second in the 200 breaststroke and a third in the 200-individual medley.

First-year Sarah Caron (Chestertown, Md./St. Andrews) and Caroline Christianson (Olney, Md./Sherwood) swam the middle legs of the 400-free relay while Caron added a pair of silvers in the 200-backstroke and as the lead leg of the medley relay. Christianson touched the wall second in the 200 freestyle as well.

Sophomore Brooke Kelly (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) anchored the free relay and added third-place points in the 200 freestyle. Classmate Kelly Hester (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) was third in the 200-breaststroke.

The Red Devils are home next Saturday, hosting Wilkes University and Lebanon Valley College at 1:00 pm.
