(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's and women's swim teams both had great starts on opening night at the 2019 Centennial Conference Championships, setting a pair of school records.

The women's 200-medley relay set a new school mark to start the night, clocking a time of 1:48.45 to capture fourth place. Senior Katie Schmidt (Plymouth, Minn./Breck School) led-off with classmate Sammy Boswell (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) swimming the anchor leg to replace their own mark from the 2018 championships.

The Red Devils kept the entire record-holding line-up in tact with Hannah Griffith (Lansdale, Pa./Penn Charter) and Molly Sternick (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) swimming the breaststroke and butterfly.

Schmidt joined the 800-free relay for a fifth-place finish as they clocked a mark of 7:58.57. Seniors Olivia Lyman (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) and Shannon Bonner (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) led-off and anchored with first-year Sasha Arefyev (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side) in the third leg.

The men's 800-free relay set a new school record with a time of 6:57.32 to finish fourth on Thursday night. First-years Logan Cort (Brookeville, Md./Mercersburg) and Damon St. Prix (Barbados/Peddie School, N.J.) swam the first two legs with juniors Will Freeman (Haddonfield, N.J./Pennington School) and Ben Shapiro (Wynnewood, Pa./Friends' Central) closing out the race.

Shapiro anchored the free relay and the 200-medley relay as they touched the wall fifth. Freeman joined the medley as well with Graham Novitch (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) and Kiernan Jordan (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) leading off and swimming the third leg.

Competition continues on Friday morning at 10:00 am.
