Red Devils Break School Record in 200 Medley Relay

(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson men and women's swimming teams opened competition at the 2018 Centennial Conference Championships on Thursday night at Franklin & Marshall College.

The championships began with two relay events on Thursday. The Red Devil women had a great start, breaking the school record in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:49.72, placing seventh overall.

Junior Katie Schmidt (Plymouth, Minn./Breck School) swam the lead leg while classmate Sammy Boswell (Linwood, N.Y./Mainland Regional) was on the anchor.

First-year Hannah Griffith (Lansdale, Pa./William Penn Charter) and sophomore Molly Sternick (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) were part of the record-setting relay as well.

Schmidt joined classmate Shannon Bonner (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) for a seventh place finish in the 800-free relay, posting a time of 7:59.20. Olivia Lyman (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) and Maddie Littlepage (Aldie, Va./John Champe) swam the first two legs.

The Red Devil men set a school record in the 800 free relay, combining for a time of 7:03.87, placing sixth overall. Sophomore Graham Novitch (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) and Will Freeman (Haddonfield, N.J./The Pennington School) led things off with first-year Tyler Catania (Spotswood, N.J./St. Joseph) and senior Mitch Reynolds (Frederick, Md./Frederick) on the last two legs.

Seniors Jake Beley (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) and Nick Beard (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) swam the lead legs of the 200-medley relay, placing sixth. Juniors Kiernan Jordan (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) and Ben Shapiro (Wynnewood, Pa./Friends' Central) joined in to clock a time of 1:37.41.

Competition continues tomorrow at 10:00 am and runs through Sunday evening.
