(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team opened the season with a strong performance in a 3-1 win over visiting New Paltz University on Friday night at Miller Memorial Field.
The Red Devils had a bit of a slow start but quickly found their way, netting a pair of goals in the first half.
First-year Meg Tate (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) made the hometown crowd proud, putting the Red Devils on the board in the 24th minute, scoring off an assist from junior Ally Diez (Rockville Center, N.Y./South Side).
Tate tallied an assist on the second, serving a beautiful cross to Addy Zandi (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) while Diez picked up her second of the night as well with a well-played ball to Tate.
Ally Donovan made a strong play and found the net for New Paltz with 33 minutes remaining in the match.
Zandi finished on a feed from Kyra Thomas (Watertown, Conn./The Taft School) to add an insurance goal in the 66th minute for the final of 3-1.
The Red Devils outshot the Hawks 19-4 and held a 7-1 advantage in corners.
Sophomore transfer Emily Hull (Ashville, N.C./Carolina Day, Wake Forest) made a pair of saves in the nets while Megan Tornatore stopped five shots while the New Paltz defense cleared a shot off the line as well.
The Red Devils are home again on Tuesday night, hosting Penn State Berks at 7:00 pm.
