(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team celebrated senior night with a scoreless draw with Gettysburg in the regular season finale to earn a spot in the Centennial Conference playoffs.
Senior Samantha Knapp (Washington, D.C./CESJDS) had a great chance early, forcing a big save from Madelyn Cunningham in the opening minute.
The Bullets had a strong opportunity with 18 minutes to play in the first half but senior Mary Katherine Brosnan (Old Tappan, N.J./Northern Valley Old Tappan) laid out to make a spectacular save to keep the match level through the first half.
The game was up and down the field for the entire second half with both teams producing some dangerous scoring chances.
The Red Devils put together a string of corners but were unable to capitalize. First-year Charlotte Glancey (Princeton, N.J./Montgomery) put a great attempt on goal but Cunningham made a remarkable save and the game went into overtime.
Brosnan turned away a big shot, early in the first extra frame and Glancey made a great defensive play to stall a threatening attack as well.
The Red Devils were just inches away from a win as junior Addy Zandi (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) rattled a shot off the left post.
The Red Devils outshout the Bullets 14-8 and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks on the night. Brosnan finished with three saves, but all were big as she recorded her ninth shutout of the season. while Cunningham was forced to make eight stops.
The Red Devils move to 10-3-4 overall and 5-2-3 in the conference. They will be the #4-seed in the conference tournament, hosting Haverford College in the first round. More details will be provided as they become available.
