Softball Sweeps Juniata in Tuesday Night Twin Bill

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team swept a pair of games from visiting Juniata College on Tuesday night at Dickinson Park. The Red Devils overcame an early deficit for a 3-1 win in the opener and showed some offensive in the nightcap with a 10-2 victory in the sixth inning.

Jennifer Carthew doubled and scored off a single from Molly Ulrich to put Juniata on the board in the first inning of game one.

The Red Devils answered with three in the fourth and that's all they would need for the 3-1 victory.

Sophomore Alissa Lema (Lutherville, Md./Towson) pinch-ran after Maggie McConney (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) was hit by a pitch. Lema would score all the way from first on a double from first-year Kristen Acocella (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) to pull the Red Devils even.

Classmate Julie Siecinski (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) launched a two-run shot over the left field fence to stretch the lead to 3-1.

Junior Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) closed the door the rest of the way to pick up the complete game victory, recording four strikeouts.

The Red Devils had a strong start in game two as first-year Brigitte Gutpelet (Norristown, Pa./Penn Charter) led off the bottom of the first with a double. The Red Devils loaded the bases and put a run on the board on a sacrifice fly from McConney.

Siecinski added an RBI and senior Nicole Clayton (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) drove in another to put Dickinson up, 3-0.

Gutpelet doubled again in the second and senior Jessica Epstein (Madison, N.J./Madison) followed up with her second straight single. Kat Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) looked to sacrifice bunt but reached safely to load the bases. Acocella walked to drive in a run to stretch the lead to 4-0.

Marissa Fabbo (Wilbraham, Mass./Wilbraham & Munson) doubled in the third to score Clayton and then came in to score on a passed ball to make the score 6-0.

Ally Ebright had a pinch-hit double and scored off the bat of Delaney Nevius in the fourth to spoil the shutout. The Eagles pushed across another in the sixth to cut the margin to 6-2.

Epstein led off the sixth with a single and came around on a double from Acocella. Siecinski and Lindsey Keller (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) sandwiched singles around a double from Clayton to end the game with a 10-2 margin.

Gutpelet and Epstein each went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Siecinski went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Clayton added two RBIs and two runs scored in the nightcap after going 2-for-2 in game one.

Killian Kueny (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) scattered five hits and allowed just one earned run in the victory.

The Red Devils are currently in a holding pattern as Thursday's non-conference double-header with Frostburg State has been canceled due to a scheduling conflict. The Red Devils are next scheduled to host Washington College on Saturday, but could also be home on Thursday or Friday as well.
