(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson softball team had a tough outing against #11-ranked Messiah College, dropping both games of the double-header on Thursday night. The Falcons posted a pair of shutouts, winning the opener 12-0 and closing out the nightcap, 5-0.
Carrie Fix led the way in game one, tossing a one-hit shutout while going 3-for-4 at the plate with five RBIs and three runs scored.
The Falcons tallied four runs in the first inning and stretched the lead to 6-0 on a two-run homer from Fix in the second. She added a three-run double in the third and scored in the third, and Messiah tacked on a pair in the fifth for the final of 12-0.
Nicole Torlincasi (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) led-off the opener with a double for the Devils' lone hit of the game.
The Red Devils had a stronger start in game two. Erin Cressman led-off the second inning with a walk and the Falcons used three bunts and an error to score a pair of runs for a 2-0 lead.
Cressman tripled and scored in the fourth and hit a two-run homer in the sixth to finish 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored. Amber Bingaman went 2-for-2 with an RBI and runs scored as well.
Madelyn Yanetti improved to 6-1 on the year, holding the Devils to a pair of hits. She had a no-hitter going into the sixth before Jessica Epstein (Madison, N.J./Madison) led-off the inning with a double down the left field line.
First-year Alissa Lema (Lutherville, Md./Towson) added a single in the seventh.
Sophomore Madison Milaszewski (Rutland, Mass./Sutton) threw both ends of the double-header, recording eight strikeouts on the day. Emily Rosenberg (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) came on to record two strikeouts in two innings of relief.
The Falcons improve to 12-3 overall while the Red Devils slip to 3-11 on the season. Dickinson opens Centennial Conference play on Saturday, traveling to Haverford College for a 1:00 pm double-header.
