Tennis Falls at Division I Loyola

(Baltimore, Md.) – The Dickinson men's and women's tennis teams played a double-header at Division I Loyola University on Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Devil women suffered a 7-0 setback to the Greyhounds. Rachel Flame (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) and Katherine Pescinski (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./The Pine School) fought to an 8-2 decision in doubles and played the top two singles flights.

Elisa Varlotta (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brashear) claimed a pair of sets in singles and joined Kirsten Brodeen (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain) in the second doubles flight.

The Greyhounds would claim a 6-1 decision over the men, but the Red Devils had some strong showings in both singles and doubles.

Sophomore Sam Coan (Washington, D.C./Bullis School) earned the point for the Red Devils, winning the second singles flight (6-2, 0-6, 12-10). Coan joined classmate Leonid Sorkin (St. Petersburg, Russia/U. of Nebraska H.S.) in the top doubles flight, battling to a 9-7 setback.

Andrew Lai (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater) went (6-3, 6-3) in the fourth singles flight and partnered with first-year Thomas Griffin (Clifton, Va./Woodbury Forest) in doubles, falling 8-3.

Garrick Adams (Kensington, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and Chris Rinehart (Radnor, Pa./Radnor) put up a fight in the third flight in an 8-5 setback.the 

The men's team travels to the ITA South Region Championships this weekend at the University of Mary Washington.
