(New Haven, Conn.) – The #17-ranked Dickinson men's squash team turned back #21 Middlebury College, 6-3, to advance to the final of the Summers Cup in the C Division of the College Squash Association Team Championships on Saturday evening at Trinity College.
First-year Zachary Hollander (Albany, N.Y./Millbrook) put the Devils on the board with a five-set win, holding off a rally after a 2-0 start, (11-2,11-9,5-11,2-11,11-7).
First-years Frank Goossens (Schaarbeekstraat, Amsterdam/Vossius Gymnasium) and Tanay Murdia (New Fatehpura Udairpur, India/Delhi Public Schoolv) claimed points in the number two and number eight flights to put Dickinson up, 3-2. Goossens won in straight sets (12-10, 11-9, 11-8) while Murdia overcame an 0-2 start to rally for a huge win (4-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-7).
The Red Devils closed out the match with a pair of straight set wins in the top spot and the number four spot. Finn Trimble (Whangarei, New Zealand/Whangarei) went (12-10, 11-9, 11-8) at one with Sergio Martin (Queretaro, Mexico/Redlands, Calif.) taking the four spot (11-6, 13-11, 11-9).
First-year Osuman Imouro (New Haven, Conn./Trinity Pawling) added a 3-1 victory in the seventh flight.
The Red Devils will square-off with Franklin & Marshall in the final on Sunday at 2:00 pm. Drama will be high for the championship match as this will be the third meeting between the teams this season with each taking a slim 5-4 decision.
