(New Haven, Conn.) – The Dickinson men's squash team, ranked 17th, nationally, earned the top seed in the Summers Cup (C Division) bracket at the 2018 College Squash Association Team Championships, hosted by Trinity College.
The Red Devils had to battle early on in the opening match, facing #24-ranked Amherst College, but came out on top, 7-2.
The teams traded sets with first-year Alex Wattles (Millbrook, N.Y./Millbrook) earning the point in the sixth flight. He overcame a tough first set and held on the fourth to win, 3-1 (3-11, 11-7, 11-4, 13-11).
Junior Cory Litman (Lower Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) and Frank Goossens (Schaarbeekstraat, Amsterdam/Vossius Gymnasium) gave the Red Devils a 3-2 lead, winning the fifth and second flights in straight sets.
First-year Zachary Hollander (Albany, N.Y./Millbrook) dropped a tough match in the nine spot, going five sets, including a 14-12 marathon in the third, (11-7, 7-11, 12-14, 11-6, 8-11).
Tanay Murdia (New Fatehpura Udairpur, India/Delhi Public School) stretched the lead to 4-2 with a 3-1 win in the number eight spot, (11-7, 9-11, 11-3, 11-9) and Finn Trimble (Whangarei, New Zealand/Whangarei) went 3-0 in the top flight to clinch the match (11-8, 11-9, 11-9).
Sergio Martin (Queretaro, Mexico/Redlands, Calif.) held off a challenge from David Merkel to win the fourth position (12-10, 11-4, 5-11, 13-11).
Osuman Imouro (New Haven, Conn./Trinity Pawling) won the opening set before Christopher Zimmerman countered to take a 2-1 lead in the seventh flight. He rallied to pull even, winning the third set, 11-9, and won the point, 11-3.
The Red Devils improve to 10-8 overall and advance to Saturday's semifinal to face the winner of #21-Middlebury and #20-Williams, at 5:30 pm.
