(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team went back and forth with #13-ranked Johns Hopkins University but came up short in a 3-2 thriller at Miller Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils struck first with junior Kevin Gilbert (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional) blasting a shot off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net in the 26th minute.
Liam Moylan found just enough daylight to find the net, pulling the Blue Jays even in the 34th minute, scoring just minutes after coming onto the field.
Gilbert tallied his second of the game with just 50 seconds to play in the first half to put the Red Devils back on top, 2-1, at the break.
Sophomore Pablo Martinez handed out two assists in the second half as Johns Hopkins scored in the 56th and 77th minute for a 3-2 win.
The Red Devils continued to challenge until the final horn, creating some dangerous chances in the final minutes.
Junior goaltender Frederick Meagher (Southport, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) finished with seven saves in the nets for the Red Devils as they move to 10-5-2 overall and 5-3-1 in the conference.
The Red Devils honored their lone senior Ward Van de Water (Warrenton, Va./Highland) before the game. Van de Water ranks fifth in the CC in scoring with seven goals on the season.
They will be the number four seed and host Gettysburg College in the first round. More details will follow.
