Red Devils Net Five in Second Straight Match

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team erupted with four goals in the second half to post a 5-1 win over the visiting University of Misericordia on Tuesday night at Miller Memorial Field.

The Red Devils struck first as junior Kevin Gilbert (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional) finished a nice feed from sophomore Ian Logan (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) in the 11th minute.

The Cougars pulled even on a breakaway goal from Ethan Aigeldinger as he tallied the equalizer in the 25th minute.

The Red Devils held the advantage for the better part of the first half, outshooting the visitors 11-4 and holding a 6-0 edge in corners.

Sophomore Colin Fagan (Chalfont, Pa./C.B. South) had a solid first half, firing a shot just above the cross bar from well outside the area.

The game quickly took a turn in the second half as the Red Devils tallied a pair of goals in a span of just 26 seconds to stretch the lead to 3-1. The Red Devils used a pair of set pieces as sophomore Will Brock (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) sent a ball to the foot of Gilbert, who one-timed it into the back of the net.

Just seconds later from almost the same spot, senior Ward Van de Water (Warrenton, Va./Highland) fed Brendan McGovern (Burlington, Vt./Kimball Union Academy, N.H.) for his first of the season. McGovern calmly converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute to put Dickinson up, 4-1.

The Red Devils tacked on another as Centennial Conference Player of the Week Frederick Cisse (New Haven, Conn./Pomfret School) broke behind the defense on a beautiful ball from first-year Ronan Higgins (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Shipley School) with just under 15 minutes to play.

Dickinson held a 22-9 shot advantage and forced 10 corner kicks while allowing just one, defensively.

Andrew Daubenspeck made seven saves for Misericordia as they fall to 2-7-1 on the season.

Frederick Meagher (Southport, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) made a pair of saves before junior Maxwell Barrett (East Andover, N.H./Proctor Academy) came on to stop three shots.

The Red Devils improve to 7-3-1 overall. They are on the road on Saturday, returning to Centennial Conference action with a 7:00 pm kick-off at Washington College.
