(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought match to visiting #10/11-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday night, suffering a 2-0 setback at Miller Memorial Field.
The Diplomats struck once in each half, putting the first goal on the board in the 12th minute. Ugo Okolie hit a shot of the crossbar and junior Connor Whitacre was in the right place at the right time to net the rebound and put the visitors up, 1-0.
F&M added an insurance goal in the 64th match as Alex Martinez slipped a pass to Steven Yakita for a 2-0 advantage.
The Red Devils had some strong chances as Kevin Gilbert (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional) broke through the defense and saw a shot go just wide of post.
Dickinson battled throughout the match and forced seven corners after the break, allowing just one on the defensive end. F&M held an 8-2 edge in corners in the first half.
Junior goaltender Frederick Meagher (Southport, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) had a solid game in the nets, making eight saves on the night.
Christopher Amoruso stopped four shots as F&M improved to 8-0-1 on the season and 2-0-1 in the Centennial Conference. F&M moved into the #10-spot on the D3soccer.com national poll and are ranked 11th by the United Soccer Coaches.
The Red Devils slip to 5-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the conference. Dickinson is on the road on Saturday, traveling to Ursinus College for a 3:00 pm start.
