Gilbert Strikes Twice to Lead Devils Past FSU

(Frostburg, Md.) – Junior Kevin Gilbert (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional) tallied a pair of goals to lead the Dickinson men's soccer team past Frostburg State, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon.

The host Bobcats struck first as Mo Odolla capitalized on a take-away in the penalty box to give Frostburg a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.

Gilbert countered with a take-away in the Frostburg defensive area to net the equalizer at the midpoint of the first half. He found the net with the game-winner early in the second half, finishing an assist from Centennial Conference point-leader Ward Van de Water (Warrenton, Va./Highland).

The Red Devils held a 16-9 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corners for the match. Frederick Meagher (Southport, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) came on to earn the win in the nets, making four saves.

Joel Assal made five saves for Frostburg as they slip to 2-5 on the season.

The Red Devils improve to 4-2-1 on the year. They are on the road again on Saturday, traveling to McDaniel College for a 3:00 pm kick-off.
