#9 Red Devils Hold Off Haverford 12-7

(Haverford, Pa.) – The #9-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team outscored host Haverford 6-4 in the first half and 6-3 in the second to claim a 12-7 victory on Friday night.

Senior Dylan Maher (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) returned to the line-up and tallied five goals and one assist to lead the Red Devil attack. Tucker Carney (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) also returned and netted a hat-trick on the night.

The Red Devils found themselves trailing early as Stephen DeLeo scored back-to-back goals to open the game. Dickinson tied the game behind a goal from Maher and two from Tyler Strods (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) with Maher picking up an assist as well.

The 'Fords sandwiched goals around scores from Maher and Carney to give the Devils a 5-4 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Nick Goles (Monkton, Md./Loyola Blakefield) finished an assist from Jack O'Connell (Sands Point, N.Y./Westminster) for the only goal of the second period, coming at the 8:07 mark.

Haverford cut the deficit to one before Carney scored back-to-back and Maher stretched the margin to 9-5 at the 12:15 mark of the third.

Mahar countered a tally from Peter Girard with two goals to close out the quarter with Dickinson holding an 11-6 lead.

The 'Fords scored early in the period and Goles tallied his second for the final of 12-7.

Strods added two goals and an assist while Goles finished with a pair. Long pole midfielder Nate Usich (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) controlled five ground balls and handed out an assist on the night. Senior Zach Blumenstein (Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Prep) controlled three GBs and forced a pair of turnovers.

Ryan Campbell (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven) had another monster game, winning 18-of-23 face-offs and controlling a game-high 11 ground balls. Sophomore goaltender Cole Pellicano (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made 13 saves and picked up three GBs.

The Red Devils improve to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face #5-ranked Gettysburg College on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm.
