(Shippensburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team kept things interesting throughout the first half at Division II Shippensburg, but the Raiders gained some separation after the break to claim an 80-60 win on Wednesday afternoon.
The Red Devils had a strong start, shooting well from long range and crashing the boards on both ends of the floor. Dickinson knocked down seven triples in the first half.
Ryan Devine (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt) hit back-to-back three-pointers to put the Red Devils up, 12-11, with 13 minutes to play in the first half.
The Raiders put together an 8-0 run to pull in front, 19-12, forcing a Dickinson timeout at the 8:52 mark.
First-year Dan Conlan (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) drained a long three-pointer to break up the run and classmate Travis Dobbins (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and Devine added three-pointers to cut the deficit to 23-21, with seven minutes remaining in the half.
Ryan Robinson (Vienna, Va./George Marshall) hit a three-pointer before Conlan and sophomore Adam Drummond (Cork, Ireland/Taft School, Conn.) added lay ups to keep the Red Devils close as they trailed 38-34 at the break.
Drummond drove to the basket and completed a three-point play to give Dickinson an early lead in the second half. The Raiders used a 6-0 run to regain lead 48-43, at the first media timeout.
The Raiders came out of the timeout and stretched the margin to 12, the largest of the game at the 14-minute mark.
Drummond hit a runner in the lane to cut the lead to single digits at 61-52 with 10 minutes to play. Shippensburg countered with a field-goal and a three-pointer from the wing to lead 66-52.
The hosts would continue to extend the lead down the stretch as they improved to 4-1 on the season.
Drummond led the Red Devils with 15 points, hitting 4-of-5 from the free throw line while adding a pair of assists and two steals.
Conlan scored 13 points, going 5-for-7 from the field and 2-for-4 from three-point range. Robinson finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
Chris Bates (Ellicott City, Md./Boys' Latin) controlled six rebounds, adding four points while Dobbins chipped in with seven points.
