Red Devils Handle Haverford 66-58

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team gained the edge on Haverford in the final minutes to post a 66-58 win at the Kline Center on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils jumped out to a 7-2 lead as first-year Adam Drummond (Cork, Ireland/Taft School, Conn.) scored a quick five points to start the game.

Drummond put Dickinson up, 16-11, before the Fords made a run to pull in front, 21-18, at the 5:28 mark of the first half.

Senior Elijah Wright (Orange, N.J./Pennington School) got the Red Devils back on track with a three-pointer in the final minute to give Dickinson a 32-27 lead at halftime.

Drummond had another strong start in the second half, hitting a pair of three-pointers and a driving lay-up to give the Red Devil a 40-31 advantage with 16:34 remaining.

Haverford chipped away at the lead, pulling even at the midpoint of the half. The margin swayed between one and two points as the teams played to the 10th tie of the night with 3:02 left in regulation.

Senior Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) made a big steal and fed Bryce Allen (Albany, N.Y./The Hill School) for a three-pointer to put Dickinson up, 61-58. He came up with another take-away and found Allen for a lay-up and a five-point advantage with just 48 seconds to play.

Will Colleran (Wayne, Pa./Valley Forge Military Academy) added a free throw and Hinckley closed things out with two from the stripe for the final of 66-58.

Four players reached double-figures for the Red Devils, led by Drummond with 17 points and nine rebounds, going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.

Wright finished with 15 points and six rebounds while Hinckley and Allen each tallied 12 points and combined for six rebounds.

Allen added four rebounds and a pair of assists while Hinckley went 4-for-6 from the field and 4-for-4 from the line, dishing out four assists and making two key steals at the end of the game. Colleran had a solid outing in his first start, adding seven points on the night.

The Red Devils improve to 6-7 overall and 4-2 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road on Thursday, traveling to Swarthmore College for an 8:00 pm tip-off.
