THE SERIES:
Washington and Lee and Dickinson will be meeting for the fourth time, with the Generals holding a 3-0 advantage in the all-time series that began during the 1959 season. The two teams have not met since September 8, 1984 when W&L claimed a 36 -7 win.

SCOUTING THE GENERALS:

The headliner for the potent W&L offensive attack is sophomore running back Josh Breece, who is a D3football.com Preseason First Team All-America selection. Breece began last season as the team's No. 2 option back, but received his first start in the fifth game of the season after an injury to Walker Brand '18. Breece went on to set an ODAC record for season rushing yards, ranking third in Division III in rushing with 1,825 yards. He also scored 18 touchdowns. He finished second in Division III in yards per carry (7.7), eighth in rushing touchdowns and tied for 15th in total points (108). He produced nine 100-yard rushing efforts, including each of the final eight games of the season to tie a program record. Breece finished the season with 169 yards against Mount Union, the most the Purple Raiders had allowed to an opposing running back since the 2014 season (50 games). Following the season, he earned AP Second Team Little All-America honors. #19/21/RV W&L (0-0) at DICKINSON (0-0) - SEP. 1, 2018 - CARLISLE, PA.

While Breece gained the lion's share of the yards, he is just one half of a formidable 1-2 punch at the option back position. Senior Collin Sherman is also back after earning Third Team All-ODAC laurels a season ago when he tallied 733 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. Sherman averaged 6.3 yards per carry and had four games of 100 yards or more, including a career-best 159 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-21 win over Bridgewater.

SCOUTING THE RED DEVILS

The Red Devils return nine starters on offense and seven are back on defense. Two-time All-Centennial Conference linebacker James Turner '19 earned Second-team honors last fall. Turner posted a team-high 113 tackles and 13 tackles for a loss in 2017. Senior defensive lineman John Minicozzi '19 also returns as a two-time All-CC selection on the defensive line.  Sophomore quarterback Robert Geiss '21, who completed 55.7 percent of his passes for 965 yards and eight touchdowns (6 INT) during his rookie campaign is slated as the starter while senior Billy Burger '19 is expected to start at wide receiver and could handle the punting duties this season.

Junior running back Jeremy Walsh '20 is the returner rusher while Geiss should have a number of options at wide receiver. Senior Jake Walbert '19, junior Daniel Salamone '20 and sophomore Christopher Longo '21 will all be big targets on offense.  Walbert registered 41 catches for 661 yards and four touchdowns two seasons ago, before playing in just two games last season before suffering an injury.  Salamone led the team with 44 catches for 333 yards and one touchdown, while Longo had 39 catches for a team-best 449 yards and seven touchdowns. Sophomore Cuba Birnbaum '21 will look to have another strong campaign on the offensive line, earning All-CC honors as a rookie.
