(Bethlehem, Pa.) – The Dickinson football team suffered a 35-18 setback at Moravian College on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils had a strong start, forcing and recovering a fumble on Moravian's first offensive possession. The Greyhounds regained possession on an interception and would put together a five-play drive, capped by a 21-yard touchdown run from Eli Redmond.
The Red Devils answered as first-year quarterback Jake Stevens (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) connected with senior tight-end Darrion Bunce (Kelowa, B.C./The Gunnery School, Conn.) on three passes before hitting first-year Christopher Longo (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) with a 13-yard touchdown strike.
The extra-point failed and Moravian scored on a 27-yard pass from Doug Erney to Nick Petros to take a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Red Devils forced another turnover on the Greyhounds' first possession of the second quarter as well, recovering their second fumble, but were unable to capitalize with points.
Erney stretched the margin to 21-6 with a 65-yard scoring pass to Alex Pierce with 9:47 remaining in the second quarter.
Moravian was threatening again but sophomore Jordan Hollander (Waverly, Pa./Abington Heights) intercepted Erney in the end zone with four seconds to play, to close out the half.
The Greyhounds struck twice in the third quarter as Erney completed a 75-yard pass to Aaron Hudson and Tim Valentine scored on a 10-yard interception return.
The Red Devils tacked on a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter for the final of 34-18. Senior Kienan Dixon (Upland, Calif./Webb School) completed six straight passes to set up a seven yard touchdown for Jeremy Walsh (Shickshinny, Pa./Northwest Area) with 6:26 left to play.
Dixon led the Red Devils on another scoring drive with Walsh finding his way into the end zone on a four-yard run.
Stevens finished 15-for-20 on the day, throwing for 124 yards while Dixon completed 12-of-13 passes for 81 yards.
Sophomore Sam Peck (N. Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) ran for 62 yards while Bunce covered 53 yards on eight receptions.
