Late Rally Comes Up Short in 6-5 Setback

(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson baseball team rallied with lone runs in the eighth and ninth innings, but came up short at McDaniel College, falling 6-5 on Friday afternoon.

Brian Reilly (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) doubled and scored on an error in the eighth and singled to score Joey Volpe (Wall, N.J./St. Rose) in the ninth before the Green Terror closed out the game.

The Red Devils jumped out to an early lead, scoring once in the first and two in the top of the second. Alex Jacobson (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) and Robbie Thompson (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) singled in the first and Jacobson scored on an error as Thompson stole second.

Volpe singled in the second and came in to score on an RBI double off the bat of catcher Chris Delsandro (Chatham, N.J./Chatham). Junior Ben Carter (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) singled to plate Delsandro to put Dickinson on top, 3-0.

McDaniel chipped away, scoring once in the third, twice in the fourth and tacked on three in the fifth for the 6-3 decision. Mike Dunn led the way with a double in the fifth to score Colin Franke after Julian Jenkins stole second and scored on an error.

Jonathan Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill./Berkshire School) and Thompson singled in the sixth but were stranded on second and third.

Delsandro went 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and an RBI. Jacobson, Volpe and Reilly all went 2-for-4 with a runs scored while Thompson added a pair of hits as well.

The Red Devils (6-17, 3-5 CC) return home for a double-header with Washington College on Saturday. The first pitch of game one is set for 12:30 pm.
