Mules Score in Ninth to Spoil Strong Outing

(Aston, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team returned to action on Thursday night but dropped a heartbreaker to Muhlenberg College as the Mules scored a lone run in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 1-0 decision.

Brendan Weiss singled after the Mules loaded the bases in the ninth to plate the game-winner.

Billy O'Neil (South Deerfield, Mass./Deerfield Academy) went head-to-head in a pitching battle with Muhlenberg's Matt D'Ambrosia, allowing just two hits heading into the ninth inning. The Mules managed to string together three in the bottom half of the ninth to finally plate the lone run of the game.

D'Ambrosia scattered three hits and recorded 15 strikeouts to earn the complete game win. O'Neil booked eight strikeouts on the hill.

Ben Carter (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) went 2-for-4 on the day while Pat Davis (New Providence, N.J./Morristown-Beard) added a hit for the Red Devils.

Muhlenberg improves to 10-10 on the season and 3-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 5-12 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Dickinson will have an opportunity for redemption on Friday as the Mules travel to Carlisle for the second game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
