(Claremont, Calif.) – The Dickinson baseball team opened spring break play in California on Saturday afternoon, falling at Pomona-Pitzer, 12-6. They were scheduled to play Claremont Mudd-Scripps as well, but that game was postponed to Monday.
The Sagehens answered with five in the bottom of the second behind a three-run homer from Brian Knapp. The hosts used a pair of doubles to stretch the lead to 11-1 at the end of the fifth.
The Red Devils came to life with a big half inning in the sixth, tacking on five runs with the help of a grand slam from senior Jonathan Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill./Berkshire School).
Dickinson had some chances in the seventh and eighth, but the Sagehens would hold, adding one more in the seventh for the final of 12-6.
Pomona posted its fifth straight win to improve to 12-4 on the year.
Robbie Thompson (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) had two hits, including a double, a walk and run scored while Carter tallied two hits and a walk with an RBI and a run scored. Chudacoff added four RBIs on his big shot.
The Red Devils slip to 2-3 overall. They are scheduled to play a double-header with Cal Tech on Sunday at 11:00 am pacific (2:00 pm eastern).
