Red Devils Drop 7-1 Decision to Visiting Messiah

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team struggled offensively, falling to visiting Messiah College, 7-1, on Tuesday afternoon. The Red Devils played solid defensively and had good showings on the mound, but simply were unable to tie together consistency at the plate.

Messiah pushed across a run in second inning, using back-to-back base-hits and a wild pitch to strike first. Jon Heisey reached and scored on a RBI from Zach Brubaker. The Falcons used four hits in the fourth inning to add a pair of runs as Heisey singled in a run and Casey Ebersole added a double.

Ben Sollenberger drove in two runs in the fifth and David Sletta doubled in another to stretch the lead to 6-0, at the end of five innings.

Derek Drake singled and Sollenberger reached on a bunt to set up an RBI for Ebesole for the final run as Drake scored on a single from the Falcon shortstop.

Sam Wachs (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) tried to trigger a rally with a one-out double in the bottom of the seventh. He came around to score on a single from Zee Crawford (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) to put Dickinson on the board.

Falcon pitcher Evan Young fought his way out of the inning and Adam Marshall came on in relief to preserve the win for Messiah.

Sollenberger went 3-for-5 on the day with two RBIs and two runs scored. Young earned the win to improve to 1-0 on the season. Messiah improves to 1-4 on the year.

Crawford went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a solid inning of relief on the mound. Jimmy Robertson (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) suffered the loss on the mound.

The Red Devils head to Florida for its Spring Break schedule. They are scheduled to face Juniata College in a double-header on Saturday. The first game is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
