(Shippensburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's cross country team ran well in the season opener, winning the Galen Piper Invitational at Shippensburg University on Friday night. The Red Devils outran the Division II Raiders, 44-54, posting three top-10 finishes.
Sophomore Tessa Cassidy (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) led the way, placing second, just one second back, with a time of 14:59. Senior Hannah Gore (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and sophomore Sarah House (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) crossed the line together in 15:14 to place ninth and 10th, respectively.
The Red Devils claimed 11th and 12th as well with senior Kelsey Horowitz (Stow, Mass./Nashoba Regional) coming in just ahead of first-year Evelyn Lantz (Manchester, Mass./Manchester Essex Regional) with times of 15:19 and 15:20.
Elizabethtown held off Gettysburg, 54-58, in the seven team field, to place third and fourth in the team standings.
The Red Devils claim possession of "The Owl" trophy and return home to host the Little Three Championship at Dickinson Park on Friday, September 8. The women's race is set to start at 6:30 pm.
