Women's XC Earns Individual & Team All-Academic Honors

(Carlisle, Pa.) – Seven cross country runners from Dickinson College were recently named to the 2011 Division III Cross-Country All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USFCCCA). To qualify, student-athletes must compile a cumulative 3.3 grade point average or greater through the most recent semester and place in the top 35 at the NCAA Regional Championships.
The women's cross country team leads the Centennial Conference (CC) with four runners earning All-Academic status: Catherine Campbell '12, Taylor Ludman '14, Emily Miller '14 and Sara Patterson '14.
Campbell was named the CC's cross country Runner of the Week three times this season and clocked the second-fastest time in school history at the Galen E. Piper Challenge on Sept. 3, 2011. Campbell is a senior with a double major in biochemistry & molecular biology and biology. She is a 2008 graduate of Trinity High School and is the daughter of Joseph and Mary Noreen Campbell of Carlisle, Pa.
Ludman is the second female and third runner overall to win the CC Championship title as a sophomore and was recently named the 2011 NCAA Mideast Region Cross Country Runner of the Year. Ludman is a sophomore majoring in psychology. She is a 2010 graduate of Solanco High School and is the daughter of Kirk and Phyllis Ludman of Willow Street, Pa.
Miller placed second overall and first on the team in the 4K race at the Dickinson Invitational on Sept. 24, 2011 and claimed an All-Mideast Region honor. Miller is a sophomore with an undeclared major. She is a 2010 graduate of Kutztown Area High School and is the daughter of Michael and Barbara Miller of Lenhartsville, Pa.
Patterson finished second on the team in the 4K race at the Dickinson Invitational and received an All-Mideast Region honor. She is a sophomore with a double-major in psychology and neuroscience. She is a 2010 graduate of St. John's School and is the daughter of William Patterson and Patricia Freeman of Houston, Texas.
The individual honors cap a stellar season for the women's cross country team, which finished the 2011 season with a top 25 performance at the NCAA Division III Championship. It was their 11th consecutive trip to Nationals.
Three men's cross country runners earned USFCCCA All-Academic status: Ted MacDonald '12, Andrew Fine '13 and Ryan Steinbock '14.
MacDonald was named to the All-CC second-team, All-Mideast Region and second-team at the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship. McDonald is a senior with a double-major in political science and international studies. He is 2008 graduate of Neshaminy High School and is the son of John and Deborah MacDonald of Langhorn, Pa.
Fine was named to the All-CC second-team, All-Mideast Region and third-team at the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship. Fine is a junior with a double-major in philosophy and law & policy. He is a 2009 graduate of Ridgewood High School and is the son of Richard and Laura Fine of Ridgewood, N.J.
Steinbock was named to the All-CC second team, All-Mideast Region and 2011 NCAA Division III Championship fourth-team. Steinbock is a sophomore majoring in international business & management. He is a 2010 graduate of Chartiers Valley High School and is the son of Allan and Sharon Steinbock of Pittsburgh, Pa.
The men's team wrapped up the 2011 season with a top 10 performance at the NCAA Division III Championship. It was the team's fifth consecutive trip to Nationals.
Both the men's and women's squads were named USFCCCA All-Academic teams as well. To earn team honors the entire roster must combine for a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.10 or better.
