(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team will add some excitement to its 2017 preseason camp as they travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico to train from September 1st through the 4th. The Red Devils will play four matches and will have the opportunity to attend a Division I tournament being hosted there as well.
The Red Devils may very well feel like they are playing in front of a home crowd and could have a great following with first-year Tatiana Lopez (Guayanobo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Puertorriqueno de Ninas) joining the Dickinson roster this fall.
It is only by coincidence that the Red Devils are traveling to Puerto Rico, but will offer a nice transition to the collegiate level for Lopez, who could have a significant role in her rookie season. A four-sport athlete in high school, Lopez is primarily a libero and defensive specialist, looking to help fill the void by the graduation of two-time All-Conference selection Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley).
Andrew Pile enters his third season at Dickinson and became the program's first, full-time head coach in the spring of 2016. Pile is excited about this opportunity to travel with the team and provide a unique experience as they enter the 2017 season. "With new players coming in and a number of veterans returning from studying abroad, this will be a great chance for the team to bond early in the season. This is also a great opportunity to play different teams from across the country that we would not normally be able to compete against," said Pile.
The Red Devils will return from Puerto Rico and then travel to the Rowan Profs Invitational on September 8th and 9th. They will face Keystone College and Rowan on Friday night, and square-off against Gettysburg and Widener on Saturday.
