Blue Jays Battle Past Red Devils in Three Sets

 

 

(Carlisle, Pa,) – The Dickinson volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to visiting Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Blue Jays jumped out to an early lead in the opening set before the Red Devils rallied to close the margin. Hopkins held on to take the opener, 25-19. Dickinson carried the momentum into the second set, engaging in some long rallies with the Blue Jays. Hopkins gained some momentum of its own, closing out the set, 25-15.

 

The Red Devils battled once again in the third, but could not another early Hopkins advantage, falling, 25-10.

 

Meahan Donohoe recorded a match-high 15 kills, adding three aces and four block assists, to lead Johns Hopkins (11-12, 7-3). Mariel Metalios handed 23 assists while Carolyn Zin dished out 15.

 

Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and Laura Silverman (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) led Dickinson, each with five kills. Silverman added four digs and a solo block.

 

Sophomore Jenn Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) handed out seven assists, adding three digs and a pair of kills. First-year Avery Dravis Stark (Midland Park, N.Y./Midland Park) tallied nine assists. Seniors Grace Morgan (Williamsburg, Va./York Suburban) and Joanna De Castro (Far Hills, N.J./West Morris Mendham) combined for 11 digs. Morgan served up three aces as well.

 

Senior Emily Kisak (Columbia, Md./Howard) added three kills and Jessie Shaffner (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) tallied a pair of kills on the day.

 

The Red Devils finish the season, 6-17 overall and 1-9 in the Centennial Conference.
