Swarthmore Holds Off Devils for 15th Win

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's volleyball team battled until the final point, but suffered a 3-0 setback to visiting Swarthmore College on Tuesday night. The Garnet claimed the first two sets by identical 25-17 scores and closed out the match with a 25-20 decision in the third.


The Red Devils rallied from an early deficit in the second set, but couldn't catch the Garnet. The Devils challenged again in the third set, taking a 20-19 lead to try and keep the match alive. Swarthmore answered with a final run to secure the final set and the match.


Senior Liz Norris (Southbury, Conn./Hotchkiss School) led the attack with eight kills, adding four digs and a block. Sophomore Avery Zuvic (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) added seven kills and three blocks, and senior Kaylee Britain (Wayzata, Minn./Blake) chipped in with five kills.


Sophomore Grace Morgan (York, Pa./York Suburban) dished out 11 assists to go with a pair of service aces and four digs. First-year MacKenzie Masten (Atherton, Calif./Notre Dame) recorded seven assists. First-year Libero Mia Bedford (Winnetka, Ill./North Shore Country Day) tallied seven digs on the night.


Genny Pezzola led Swarthmore (15-6, 3-3) with 11 kills and seven digs while Allison Coleman dished out 28 assists.


The Red Devils slip to 3-13 overall and 1-3 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again on Friday night, hosting Washington College at 7:00 pm.
