Red Devils Claim Second at Blue Jay Invite

(Elizabethtown, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's track & field team placed second at the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Final Tune-Up on Saturday as teams prepare for conference championships.

Sophomore Sarah Yanega (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) won the 400-meters to highlight the day.

Senior Candice Ionescu (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) ran to second in the 1500-meters and placed eighth in the 800. First-year Lilanna Matala (Schenectady, N.Y./Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) was third in the 800 and was fifth in the high jump.

Isabella Fife (Lancaster, Pa./JP McCaskey) and Amelia Hallock (New York, N.Y./Millenium) placed seventh and 10th in the 1500, respectively.

Emily Messer (Mason, N.H./Lawrence Academy) placed second in the shot put and eighth in the javelin while Mary Smith (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) claimed third in the hammer throw and was sixth in the javelin. First-year Analisa Groble (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) had a good day in the throws as well, placing fifth in the discus and sixth in the shot.

Senior Maura Reilly (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) ran to silver in the 5000-meters while sophomore Ruby Stricker (Philadelphia, Pa.) crossed the line fourth.

The Red Devils were second in the 4x100 relay. Natalie Suess (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt) ran the 4x100 and placed fourth in the long jump and seventh in the 200-meters. Lana Ljoka (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) placed seventh in the triple jump and eighth in the long.

Naji Thompson (Springfield, N.J./Oak Knoll) anchored the relay and placed third in the 100-meters. Wrutoe Bonwin (Lynn, Mass./KIPP Academy Lynn Collegiate) and Liana Tabtiang (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) were part of the relay and Tabtiang added an eighth-place finish in the 200-meters.

Lucile Ionescu (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) was fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase. First-year Alexandra Colby (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) was fourth in the 400-meters hurdles and sixth in the pole vault.

The Red Devils travel to Muhlenberg College next weekend for the 2019 Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships.
