Canning Earns All-Region, NCAA Bid in 5000 Meters

(Carlisle, Pa.) – Senior Sofia Canning (Portland, Maine/Waynflete) was named to the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (UST&FCCCA) All-Mideast Region Team, announced this week.

The top five performances in each event, in each of the eight regions are recognized at All-Region. Canning makes her second All-Region appearance, earning honors for the 2017 outdoor season while qualifying for nationals in the 10,000 meters.

This season, Canning ran to gold in the 5000 meters to earn First-team All-Centennial Conference honors. She earned her first bid to the NCAA Indoor National Championships, breaking the school record with a time of 17:09.74 in the NYU Invite at the New York Armory in February.

Canning was also named to the 2018 All-Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Team. She departs for Birmingham, Alabama for nationals on Wednesday afternoon and is scheduled to compete in the 5000 meters on Friday at (6:05 pm EST, 5:05 pm CST).
