Red Devil Women Return to Form at Bison Open

The Dickinson women's track and field team completed a series of strong performances on the second day of a meet at Bucknell University against largely Division I and II competition.

After a junior spring spent abroad in India, senior Ellie Mackintosh (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) has been successfully knocking off the rust all winter. Today in the triple jump, she placed ninth with a mark of 10.59 meters (34 feet, 9 inches). That is the second best triple jump in the Centennial Conference this season.

In the 3000 meters, senior Catherine Campbell (Carlisle, Pa./Trinity) finished second in 10:25.50, the fastest time in the conference thus far. That's inherently impressive, but even more so when considering that Campbell was battling the stomach flu all week. She was joined in the 3k by teammate Anne Dyroff (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) who finished sixth in 10:43.42, which ranks ninth in the conference.

The most impressive performance of the day in the distances, though, came from sophomore Kelly McIntyre (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) in the mile. Her 400 splits were 82.5, 81.0, 79.1, 76.2, negatively splitting to a 5:19.63. That time earned third place and number one in the conference. McIntyre later doubled back to finish second in the 1000 meters, running 3:06.34 for second.

The Red Devils return to competition next weekend. First, on Friday night, some distance runners will compete at Haverford College, then the rest of the squad is hosting the Du Charme Invitational in the Kline Center on Saturday.
