Four Red Devils Ready to Run at NCAA National Championships
The fields for the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships were announced on Sunday, and Dickinson will be represented by four athletes. Seniors Kent Pecora (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) and Kim Powell (Canton, Conn./Canton), junior Catherine Campbell (Carlisle, Pa./Trinity), and first-year Taylor Ludman (Willow Street, Pa./Solanco) will head to Ohio Wesleyan University this weekend.
All four will be gunning for All-America status, which is given to the top eight finishers in each event. Pecora automatically qualified for the steeplechase, in which he is seeded fourth. He posted a then-nation-leading time of 9:01. Pecora also qualified in the 1500 and 5000 meters, where his time of 14:28 ranks 13th in the field.
Powell, Campbell and Ludman will be able to race together one last time, as all three are in the 10,000 meters. Going into the meet, Powell's time of 36:25 ranks her 14th, while Campbell (36:25 with a higher decimal) and Ludman (36:31) are close behind at 16th and 17th.
This marks the highest number of Red Devils to compete at the same national championship in program history and the first time Dickinson will have three athletes compete in the same race at nationals as well.
The women's 10k is Thursday night at 9:20, the men's steeple is Friday night at 8:30, and the men's 5k goes off Saturday afternoon at 4:25. The meet will be held in Delaware, Ohio on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.
