(Fredericksburg, Va.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team opened play at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday at the University of Mary Washington.
The Red Devils had a tough start in the opening round of the championship singles bracket, suffering setbacks in four singles matches. Senior Joana Nunes (Carcavelos, Portugal/St. Julien's School) battled with Christopher Newport's Alexandra Drye but dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision.
Senior Madison Parks (Denton, Md./North Caroline) played a strong second set before falling to Johns Hopkins' Sunaina Vohra. She team with Nunes in doubles, but they could not get past Washington & Lee in the championship flight.
Lydia Fox (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Arlington) and first-year Olivia Shea (West Hartford, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) dropped a championship doubles match to Carnegie Mellon and also suffered first round setbacks in the championship singles flight.
They will move to the consolation brackets and continue competition on Sunday.
