(Hilton Head, S.C.) – The Dickinson women's tennis team posted an 8-1 victory over Missouri Valley on Thursday before suffering a 7-2 loss to Rhodes and a 9-0 setback to Denison on Friday.
The Red Devils rolled to straight set wins in the first five singles flights and won doubles, 8-1, 8-4, 8-1.
Alysia Rodgers (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) claimed the top flight, (6-1, 6-0), while Shannon Lavery (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) won the second, 6-0, 6-0. The pair combined for an 8-1 win in doubles.
Sydney Diamond (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) dropped just one point in her singles win, taking the third flight, 6-1, 6-0.
Rhodes edged the Devils, 5-4, on Friday. Rodgers and Lavery held off a rally to win doubles in a tiebreak, 9-8 (5). Rodgers played with a bad contact lens, but managed to battle to a three-set tiebreaker, falling 6-4, 6-7(5), 11-9.
Diamond went to a super tiebreaker before suffering a 5-7, 6-2, 10-6 setback. Ilana Unger (Boulder, Colo./Alexander Dawson) overcame a tough first set to win her flight, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. Sarah Cantor (Providence, R.I./Wheeler School) narrowed the final scored with an 8-5 win in the sixth flight.
The Red Devils stand at 1-5 on the season. They travel to Elizabethtown on Wednesday for a 3:30 pm start.
