Schmidt Wins 200 Backstroke at Bullet Invite

(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's swim team had a good start on the first day of the Gettysburg Invitational on Friday night. The Red Devils are currently third in the team standings. Mary Washington holds the to spot with 366 points to lead Gettysburg (346) and Dickinson (246), with Susquehanna and Bryn Mawr in fourth and fifth.

Senior Katie Schmidt (Plymouth, Minn./Breck School) won the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:04.61 and added third-place showings in the 200 medley and 400 free relay events. Classmate Sammy Boswell (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) anchored the medley and joined the free relay for a pair of silvers.

First-year Maddi Vlattas (Herndon, Va./Westfield) was part of the medley relay as well and placed seventh in the free relay. She was fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:29.58 while Hannah Griffith (Lansdale, Pa./William Penn Charter) placed sixth.

Junior Molly Sternick (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) joined both third-place relays and touched the wall fourth in the 100-freestyle with a time of 54.10. First-year Brooke Kelly (Wilton, Conn/Wilton) was sixth in the 100-free and swam the third leg of the free relay to claim a silver.

First-year Hadley Starr (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) placed seventh in the 200-butterfly while Griffith, Audree Khalishah (Jakarta, Indonesia/Jakarta International School) and Sasha Arefyev (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side) were part of the third-place free relay.

Sophomore Madison Littlepage (Aldie, Va./John Champe) added a fourth-place showing in the 1650-yard freestyle.

The Red Devils return tomorrow as competition continues with sessions at 10:00 am and 5:00 pm on Saturday.
