Devil Women Capture Ninth Win, Top Washington 135-61

(Chestertown, Md.) – The Dickinson College women's swim team turned in a strong performance, improving to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devil women raced to a 135-61 win over the Shorewomen on Saturday.

 

Senior Eva Kolstad (Cheshire, Conn./Hopkins School) swam to a pair of wins, capturing the 50 and 100 freestyle events with times of 25.59 and 55.78, respectively. She also swam the 400 free relay, clocking an exhibition time of (3:51.28).

 

The Devils were dominant in the freestyle events as sophomore Carson Gannon (Morristown, N.J./Morristown Beard) posted wins in the 200 (2:00.49) and 500 yard freestyle (5:23.21). The Devils went 1-2-3 in the 500 as first-year Nora Snee (Falls Church, Va./JEB Stuart) placed second (5:35.39), followed by classmate Sarah McEvoy (Riverside, Conn./Riverside) in third (5:43.35).

 

Snee placed second in the 1000 freestyle as well, clocking a time of 11:19.53. She finished behind classmate Carla Vazquez-Ramos (Arlington, Va./Yorktown), who posted a winning time of 11:15.14. Vazquez-Ramos also placed second in the 200 butterfly (2:25.30), finishing behind teammate Caroline Brennan (Madison, N.J./Madison), who clocked a time of 2:18.48.

 

Sophomore Natalie LeBlanc (Westport, Conn./Staples) led the Devils to a 1-2-3 showing in the 200 individual medley as well. She finished first with a time of 2:18.26, with first-year Johanna Fleming (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) placing second (2:20.31) and Edmi Vazquez-Ramos (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) coming in third (2:23.26).

 

LeBlanc also led a sweep of the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:15.54 and earned a third win on the day as the lead leg of the 400 medley relay (4:19.98).

 

Maky Sullivan (South Hadley, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) was second in the backstroke (2:22.88) with Betsy Mullally (Nottingham, Md./Roland Park) taking third (2:24.87). First-years Alex Melchiorre (Voorhees, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) and sophomore Gillie Grattan (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal) were second and third in the 200 freestyle, posting times of 2:03.99 and 2:06.29, respectively.

 

Senior Kasia Szulborski (Shavertown, Pa./Dallas) joined Brennan and Fleming to round out the winning medley relay. First-year Alexandra Goodson (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) was second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.01.

 

The Red Devils are on the road again next weekend, traveling to Franklin & Marshall for a 1:00 pm start.
