Gannon Leads Strong Start for Devils at CC Championships

(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's and women's swim teams combined for nine school records, a pair of Centennial Conference records and four new pool marks on the first day of the 2011 Centennial Conference Championships. The Red Devil men and women are currently both fourth in the team standings.

 

First-year standout Jason Adams (Kingston, Jamaica/Kent School, Conn.) turned in an outstanding performance in the 50 freestyle. He won the event, earning First-team All-Conference honors. Adams broke his own school, conference and pool records, lowering his time to 20.36. He set the records in the afternoon session with a time of 20.91 in the prelims. His finals time is an NCAA-automatic qualifying time as well. Senior Andrew Wade (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) gave the Devils a one-two finish in the 50 freestyle with a personal-best time of 21.04 to earn honorable mention All-Conference honors.

 

Adams swam the lead leg and Wade was the anchor for two school records in the 200 free and 400 medley relays. Kevin Chibbaro (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Twp.) and Tyler Derreth (Hanover, Pa./South Western) swam the 200 free, clocking a time of 1:24.05 to finish second.

 

Jordan Reed (Mercersburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) and Cris Miranda (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) were part of the conference championship team in the 400 medley relay, which also set a pool record and NCAA-B qualifying time of 3:26.76. Adams clocked an NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 100 backstroke with his split of 49.83, setting another school record as the lead leg. He added another conference, school and pool record in the 50 freestyle, clocking a split of 20.57 to lead-off the 200 free relay.

 

First-year Brandon Gauthier (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) placed fifth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:59.82. He set a school record in the prelims with a time of 1:58.08.

 

First-year Carson Gannon (Morristown, N.J./Morristown Beard) earned honorable mention All-Conference, placing second in the 500 freestyle, breaking the school mark she set in the prelims with a time of 5:04.59. She was second in the prelims as well with a time of 5:06.03. Her finals time was an NCAA-B qualifying time.

 

First-year Natalie LeBlanc (Westport, Conn./Staples) captured third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:12.35. She clocked the top time in the prelims, setting a school and pool record, touching the wall with a time of 2:11.97.

 

Gannon swam the second leg of the 200 free relay and the anchor leg of the 400 medley relay as the Devils placed fifth and seventh in the events, respectively. Jessica Hassinger (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), Lauran Sullivan (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) and Eva Kolstad (Cheshire, Conn./Hopkins School) joined the 200 free relay for a time of 1:40.78.

 

LeBlanc swam the led led of the 400 medley, joined by Jamie Bugel (McLean, Va./McLean) and Rachel Williams (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) to post a time of 4:08.86.

 

Competition continues on Saturday and Sunday with preliminary events in the afternoon and finals in the evening sessions.
