Devil Women Hold Off Royals 105.5-99.5 in Season Opener
(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's and women's swimming teams both posted hard fought wins over visiting Scranton on Saturday. The men claimed second in the final event to hold off the Royals, 104-101 while the Red Devil women finished first and third in the 400 free relay to secure a 105.5-99.5 decision.
First-year Carson Gannon (Morristown, N.J./Morristown Beard) led the women with a triple-win in her collegiate debut. She captured the 200 and 100 freestyle events in times of 2:01.06 and 56.86, respectively, and swam the lead leg of the free relay to a winning time of 3:48.37. Classmate Natalie LeBlanc (Westport, Conn./Staples) was also a triple-winner in her first collegiate competition. She posted wins in the 200 individual medley (2:17.17) and the 200 backstroke (2:14.89), and swam the anchor leg of the free relay.
The Devils went 1-2 in the 50 freestyle, led by a win from Jessica Hassinger (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) with a time of 25.45 and a second place showing from Sarah Boyd (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel) with a time of 26.25.
First-year Gillie Gratton (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal) finished just behind Gannon in the 200 freestyle, placing second with a time of 2:03.31. She added a second place finish in the 500 freestyle as well, clocking a time of 5:40.50.
The Red Devils travel to York College next Saturday, and will also compete against Susquehanna and St. Mary's.
