(Haverford, Pa.) – The #18-ranked Dickinson women's squash team opened play on Saturday with a 9-0 victory at #30-ranked Haverford College. The Red Devils turned in a dominant performance in the opener, claiming all nine flights, 3-0. The closed out the day with another 9-0 victory, turning back George Washington University.
Junior Abbie Wingerd (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) had a strong showing in the eight flight, winning her match (11-0, 11-1, 11-2) while classmate Alanis Perez (New Haven, Conn./Canterbury) went (11-1, 11-1, 11-3) to claim the nine spot.
Hedvika Suchankova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/St. Michael's) posted the win in the top spot (11-8, 11-6, 11-7), and Domenica Romo (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Atenas) and Eloise Nimoityn (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) posted similar scores to claim the second and third flights (12-10, 11-6, 11-2) and (12-10, 11-7, 11-8).
The Red Devils allowed just three sets in the nightcap, posting seven, 3-0 victories. Nimoityn moved into the top flight and claimed an (11-2, 11-3, 11-1) decision. Nicole DeLuca (Newtown Square, Pa./Baldwin School) earned the point in the second flight, (11-4, 11-5, 11-1).
The Red Devils improve to 6-8 overall. They return home to face Bucknell University on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm.
