(Carlisle, Pa.) – In front of a capacity crowd, the #23-ranked Dickinson women's squash team opened the season, hosting the #13-ranked University of Virginia. The Cavaliers lived up to their ranking, claiming a 9-1 decision on Saturday afternoon at the Kline Center.
Junior Hedvika Suchankova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/St. Michael's) battled in the top flight, losing the opening set to Tara Arya and rallying back to win the next three to secure a 3-1 decision (4-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-4).
The Cavaliers claimed the remaining flights in straight sets. Junior Domenica Romo (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Atenas) played a strong match in the second flight (11-9, 11-6, 11-4) while senior Meagan Dashcund (South Hamilton, Mass./Phillips Exeter Academy) turned in a solid performance in the 10th flight, going (11-6, 11-8, 11-5).
The Red travel to Drexel University next Saturday to face the Dragons at 11:30 pm. They will then face either Franklin & Marshall or the University of Pennsylvania at 2:30 pm. Pairings will be decided after the outcome of the first two matches of the day.
