(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team remained unbeaten, improving to 5-0 on the season with a 1-0 victory over visiting Penn State Berks on Sunday afternoon at Miller Memorial Field. The Red Devils posted their fourth shutout of the season as well. The Lions entered the match ranked 19th in the U.S. Soccer Coaches preseason poll.
The Red Devils controlled the run of the play for the better part of the first half but the Lions also put together some nice attacking runs.
Following a scoreless first half, Dickinson put the pressure on and wasted little time putting a goal on the board. Sophomore Addy Zandi (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) made a strong move at the top of the penalty box and fired a shot into the back of the net for her first point of the season.
The Red Devils had a number of great chances but an outstanding performance from Penn State goaltender Paige Elmy kept the score at 1-0. Elmy finished with 17 saves on the night and kept the Lions in the hunt until the final horn.
The Red Devils held a 21-5 advantage in shots and forced five corners on the night. They allowed just one on the defensive end as junior goalkeeper Mary Katherine Brosnan (Old Tappan, N.J./Northern Valley Old Tappan) tallied four saves to record her fourth shutout of the season as well.
The Red Devils (5-0) are home again on Wednesday, hosting Susquehanna University at 5:00 pm.
