Women's Soccer Nets 6-1 Win at Mt. St. Vincent

(Riverdale, N.Y.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team overcame an early deficit to post a 6-1 victory at the College of Mount St. Vincent on Saturday afternoon.

The Dolphins took an early lead, scoring just 1:40 into the contest. Julia McGowen collected a rebound off her own header and poking the ball into the net to put the hosts on the board.

The Red Devils answered in the 10th minute as senior Gabrielle Tomasini (Garden City Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park) fed a nice through ball to first-year Elizabeth Krause (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) to tie the match. Krause paid if forward with an assist to junior Alexandra Goldrich (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional) to put Dickinson on top, 2-1, in the 18th minute.

The Devils stretched the margin to 3-1 in the 26th minute when first-year Caitlin Gugliotta (North Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield) sent a cross to the foot of Samantha Knapp (Washington, D.C./CESJDS) who found the back of the net with her second goal of the season.

Senior Carolina Sguerra (Scarsdale, N.Y./Edgemont) put Dickinson in front, 4-1, scoring with just 22 seconds remaining in the first half. Sguerra received a well-place cross from sophomore Taylor Brennan (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) and redirected a header into the net.

Brennan tallied another assist in the 58th minute, serving a corner kick to classmate Olivia Termini (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) to stretch the margin to 5-1. The Devils closed out the scoring in the 69th minute as first-year Sienna Zittle (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) finished on an assist from classmate Abby Kaija (Reading, Vt./Woodstock) for the final of 6-1.

Dickinson outshot the Dolphins 18-15, but the hosts held an 11-7 advantage in the second half. Each team produced eight corners on the day as well.

Elizabeth Martin made nine saves for Mt. St. Vincent as they fall to 7-5 on the year. Sophomore Mary Katherine Brosnan (Old Tappan, N.J./Northern Valley Old Tappan) finished with six saves as Dickinson improves to 5-4-3.

The Red Devils return to Centennial Conference action on Thursday night, traveling to Gettysburg for a 7:00 start.
