Kunkle, Jaran Lead Devils Past Owls 6-0
(Bryn Mawr, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's soccer team rolled to a 6-0 win at Bryn Mawr on Saturday afternoon. Junior Marissa Kunkle (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) tallied a pair of goals and dished out an assist. Classmate Heather Jaran (Budd Lake, N.J./Mt. Olive) handed out two assists and scored once to lead the Red Devils.
First-year Allie Young (New Canaan, Conn./St. Luke's) scored the game-winner, finishing an assist from Kunkle in the 17th minute. Kunkle stretched the lead to 2-0 with a header off a long assist from Jaran, just 62 seconds later.
Jess Swain (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) put the Devils up 3-0 at halftime, scoring off an assist from Chelsea Johnson (Rose Valley, Pa./Strath Haven) in the 32nd minute. Young assisted classmate Julia Thayer (Washington, D.C./Maret School) just over four minutes into the second half.
Kunkle capitalized on another Jaran assist, this time on a corner in the 72nd minute. Jaran put in a corner of her own in the 78th minute to close out the scoring.
Junior Annie Weichert (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) did not face any shots in the first half. Liz Cassin (Summit, N.J./Summit) and Megan Stekla (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) split time in the second half. Cassin stopped three shots in 25 minutes of action.
Dickinson held a 29-3 advantage in shots and forced eight corners. Rebecca Joseph made nine saves for the Owls (5-5-1, 0-4-1).
The Red Devils improve to 7-3-1 overall and 4-2 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Susquehanna University on Tuesday. Opening kick-off is set for 5:00 pm.
