Three Named to NSCAA/Performance Subaru All-Region Women's Soccer Team

 

(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson College women's soccer team earned three spots on the 2010 National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Mid-Atlantic Region team. In addition, head coach Kelly Tyrrell Colgate '00 was selected as the Coach of the Year.

 

Junior forward Genevieve Olson (Quincy, Mass./Thayer Academy) was a First-team selection while sophomore Marissa Kunkle (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) earned Second-team honors and senior Ashley Kunkle (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) garnered Third-team honors.

 

Olson led the Red Devils in scoring with 11 goals and six assists, leading the Centennial in game-winners with five on the year. She is currently tied for ninth in career points at Dickinson, recording 26 goals and 14 assists in the past three seasons. She is tied for ninth in both career goals and career assists.

 

Ashley Kunkle was a dominant force in the midfield, serving as one of the main playmakers for the Devils, both on offense and defense. She tallied four goals, including two game-winners. Marissa anchored an outstanding defensive effort this season and proved to be a dangerous scoring threat out of the defensive end. She tallied seven goals and handed out five assists.

 

The Red Devils tied a school record, winning 16 games on the year and capturing the Centennial Conference regular season title with a 9-1 conference record. Dickinson finished 16-4-2 overall, falling to #1-ranked Messiah College in the third round of the tournament. They set school records with 12 straight wins and 13 shutouts on the year, and broke their own Centennial Conference mark with seven consecutive shutouts as well.

 

Tyrrell has posted a 53-20-8 overall record in four seasons at the helm of the Red Devil program. She has led the Devils to three straight Centennial Conference Championship appearances and produced two Conference Players of the Year.
