(Grantham, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss to #1-ranked Messiah College in the third round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday evening. The Falcons improved to 22-0 on the season while the Devils finish 16-4-2 overall.
The Falcons struck early as Corinne Wulf headed in a cross by Joanna Haag just seven minutes into the contest. The Devils turned in a strong performance, but were held without a shot as Messiah tallied 10 in the first half and 15 after intermission.
Wulf tallied again in the 59th minute, scoring off rebound from a blast by Amanda Naeher. Messiah would add another insurance goal in the 82nd minute as sophomore Annie Weichert (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) made another great save but Ali Rogers was there to finish the shot from Alicia Frey.
Weichert played outstanding in goal against the nation's top-rated offense, making 12 saves on the night.
Messiah advances to Sunday's "Elite Eight" match-up with Centennial Conference foe Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays advanced with a 2-1 win over The College of New Jersey.
