Red Devils Deal #17-Ithaca First Loss 9-7

(Nashville, Tenn.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team faced its fourth, nationally-ranked opponent of the season on Saturday, squaring-off with #17-ranked Ithaca College at Vanderbilt's Nachez Field in Nashville.

The Red Devils jumped out to an early lead and held off a late charge to knock-off the Bombers and hand them their first loss of the season, 9-7.

The Red Devils struck first as sophomore Sam Marmo (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) tallied her 14th goal of the season to put Dickinson on the board at the 26:55 mark.

Senior Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) netted back-to-back goals to give the Devils a 3-0 advantage, with 25 minutes to play in the first half.

The Bombers countered with back-to-back scores to cut the deficit to 3-2. Marmo dished out an assist to Allison Carey (Weston, Conn./Laurelton Hall) at the 9:52 mark and Anne Dunster (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) converted a free position to stretch the lead to 5-2, with just under eight minutes to play.

The Bombers sandwiched a pair of goals around another tally from Dunster as she finished an assist from Siebold for a 6-4 edge at the break.

Ithaca capitalized on a free position to start the second half as Gaby Berne cut the Devil lead to one at the 26:15 mark.

The Devils responded with two goals in a two-minute span with Siebold finishing an assist from Carey before Marmo netted her second of the game, with 20:40 left to play.

Marmo drew an eight-meter, just minutes later but Kimberly Presuto came away with a save for Ithaca. Senior goaltender Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) turned away a free position on the other end to keep the score 8-5.

Morgan Raciot would find the net, scoring her second of the day with 14:59 remaining to pull the Bombers within two. Sophomore Eleanor Kaestner (Glyndon, Md./Franklin) made the score 9-6, with the help of an assist from Dunster, with 11:23 to go.

Berne score her second to make it 9-7 and the Bombers gained possession as they looked to rally. Cuddihy would virtually shut the door in the final five minutes, causing a pair of turnovers and controlling three ground balls. Her final take-away came with 22 seconds on the clock to secure the win.

Cuddihy had a truly outstanding game, both inside and out of the crease. She finished with 16 saves and eight ground balls while causing three turnovers on the day.

Siebold netted a hat-trick with an assist while Marmo scored twice, handed out an assist and controlled a pair of draws. Sophomore Tara Cassidy (Glen Rock, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) and first-year Mindy Corney (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) combined for four caused turnovers while Cassidy added a pair of ground balls.

 Presuto made eight saves in the nets for Ithaca while Abby Runyon caused four turnovers and controlled five ground balls as the Bombers slip to 4-1 on the season.

The Red Devils improve to 3-3 overall. They return home to host Messiah College on Wednesday afternoon. The opening draw is set for 4:00 pm at Biddle Field.
