(Grantham, Pa.) –The Dickinson women's lacrosse team knocked-off #10-ranked Messiah College, 11-9, on Wednesday night.

Sophomore Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day School) scored four goals and dished out an assist to lead the Red Devils. Junior Brett Whelan (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) and first-year Moira Mahoney (Wayne, Pa/Radnor) combined for 11 ground balls and three caused turnovers to anchor the defense.

The game was in doubt most of the day and the outcome was in doubt throughout the contest as the Red Devils played even with the Falcons all night.

Messiah took an early 3-1 lead before Dickinson pulled even at 3-3 behind goals from Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) and Clare Manoli (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy).

Manoli fed O'Brien to give the Devils their first lead of the game at the 9:51 mark. They held the lead until the final minute of the half, when Carly Bajus finished and assist from Lizzy Keeney with 50 seconds left to play.

The host Falcons went into the half with a 6-5 advantage on a goal from Claire Strikeleather with just six seconds on the clock.

Keeney struck first in the second half to give Messiah a two goal advantage at 6-4. O'Brien and Manoli converted free-position goals to pull the Devils even at the 21:48 mark.

Kenney answered for Messiah but the Devils would respond, scoring twice in a span of 27 seconds to take an 8-7 lead with 17:08 remaining. O'Brien assisted first-year Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) and then tallied her fourth goal of the game.

Gabrielle Hamelryck found the net at the 11:54 mark and Keeney gave Messiah a 9-8 advantage with 9:53 to play in regulation.

The Red Devils would tally three straight to overtake the 10th-ranked Falcons. Kelly Haglund (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) tallied back-to-back goals in a span of just over a minute, and Kara Glazer (Towson, Md./Towson) added an insurance goal with 2:29 on the clock. Morrissey controlled the draw and the Red Devils held on for the win.

Messiah slips to 1-2 on the season. Keeney finished with three goals and an assist to lead Messiah. Taylor Phillips made six saves in goal.

Haglund and Manoli each scored two goals and handed out an assist. Grace Morelli (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) made 11 saves in goal for the Red Devils.
